DigitalOcean Insights launches with built-in visibility for AI agent apps and infrastructure

DigitalOcean Insights public preview integrates DOKS, APP Platform with Managed Agents telemetry, based on OpenTelemetry to provide dashboards, queries, alerts and API, unified monitoring of AI agent applications and infrastructure; the preview is free, after GA expected charges, Monitoring will transition.

DigitalOcean Insights enters public preview as part of the DigitalOcen Agent Learning Services, bringing together metrics, logs and tracking for products such as DigitalOces Kubernetes (DOKS), APP Platform, Managed Agents in one place, based on OpenTelemetry with built-in integration; there is no additional cost to open previews, but a fee is expected after GA. Existing digital ocean monitoring will be transitioned as planned.

What is it?

Production AI agent typically spans model calls, routing decisions, tool calls and the underlying infrastructure. Evidence may be scattered across logs, metrics, tracking and different consoles once operations become slow or failures occur. The goal of DigitalOcean Insights is to put relevant telemetry signals in the same backend within the digital ocean platform, reducing time for teams to build additional integration or burial points themselves.

The built-in capabilities of Insights include the following: - Instructions for use.

  • Dashboards: organize common signals into a single view.
  • Explorers: Browse through metrics, logs and tracks, and drill down from products to individual resources.
  • Query: Creates graphs with a visual constructor or by writing directly to PromQL, supporting time series, stat, gauge, bar and pie.
  • Alerts: Set conditions for arbitrary indicators, evaluate the window and frequency of repeated notifications, and route to a team's existing notification channel.
  • API: Manage alerts and notifications through publicAPI channels, and programmatically query indicators, logs, tracking.
  • Access control: Use role-based access control to manage viewing and configuration permissions, consistent with the DigitalOcean account system.

How to Choose: What It Means for Readers

Scenarios where Insights should be prioritized: The following scenarios are appropriate.

The sceneWhat It Means for Readers
already running DOKS or APP PlatformIndicators and logs can access the same view, reducing cross-console clutter.
Using Managed Agents or related reasoning components token can observe throughput, latency, error rates and cost estimates and track a single agent turn via the Action Gateway.
Need to link application anomalies with underlying resourcesTrace from slow agent response to tool call, or trace from DOKS indicator peak to relevant pod, reducing manual alignment timestamps.
Hoping to incorporate observable configuration into the codeIt can be used API to manage alerts, notification channels and telemetry queries.

Notes and notes

  • Insights relies on built-in integration to emphasize that no additional installation, deployment or burial point is required; however, not all custom application telemetry has been covered.
  • There is no additional charge during the public preview, but it remains subject to Insights Public Preview Terms and restrictions on use or retention as described in the documentation.
  • DigitalOcean plans to integrate the entire digital ocean observability experience into Insights around GA time; existing users of digital ocean monitoring will still be able to use their existing indicators and alerts until transition.
  • This announcement contains forward-looking statements; public previews are not guaranteed for production workloads.
  • DigitalOcean plans to continue expanding its coverage during the public preview phase, including custom telemetry from proprietary applications and more digital ocean products.
  • The conclusion is official.

FAQ and

  1. Does Insights need its own extra space?

Public preview documentation explains that remote sensing for supported products such as DOKS, APP Platform and Managed Agents is integrated into Insights through built-in integration without the need for additional installation, deployment or burial.

  1. Is Insights based on a proprietary format?

It runs on OpenTelemetry and keeps telemetry data in an open, portable format.

  1. Is there a charge for the public preview?

There is no additional charge during the public preview, but use or retention restrictions are subject to Insights Public Preview Terms.

  1. Will the existing DigitalOcean Monitoring be discontinued immediately?

There is no indication of an immediate shutdown. Existing indicators and alerts will continue to work before the transition, with DigitalOcean planning on integrating pre-and post-GA experiences.

  1. What is the price after GA?

Fees are expected to start after GA, but have not yet been disclosed; prices will be announced before billing.
